job Description

We are looking for a school nurse or medical professional who will be responsible for the healthcare of our students. A School Nurse/Medical Professional works under the direct supervision of the Head of School. The School Nurse provides and manages a health services program to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development; supports the process by working to assure the health of students. Some of the school nurse’s responsibilities will be developing healthcare initiatives for the school. To be successful as a school nurse or medical professional, you must be knowledgeable in principles and practices underlying the professional medical field and remain up to date with current trends in the specialized field of school health.

  • Must be a Christian and actively attend a local church.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some college coursework is preferred.
  • Successful completion of the national exam for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN) OR Current EMT certification/license in the state of practice OR Medical Assistant Program.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Experience working with children and students.
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, and lifting of up to approximately 30 pounds may be required.
  • Full-time position Monday through Friday.
  • Work day from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Desire to continue career improvement and travel if necessary.

essential responsibilities

  • Provide first aid care and health assessments.
  • Write care plans and coordinate the care of students with chronic or acute health conditions.
  • Communicate with teachers and staff to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
  • Utilizing existing resources to provide appropriate healthcare to students and staff.
  • Assessing the status of student and staff immunization documentation, when necessary.
  • Promoting an optimal level of wellness among students and staff by monitoring and maintaining records of preventative healthcare services, such as immunizations.
  • Developing and implementing health plans for students with specific health needs.
  • Assist with carrying out health assessments and screening for deficits in vision, hearing, growth, and/or development of students.
  • Planning and implementing school health management protocols and procedures, especially for emergency situations.
  • Providing referrals, to parents or staff, for intervention and remediation of abnormal or worrying health conditions affecting students.
  • Providing ongoing health counseling to students, parents, and staff.
  • Completing medical paperwork, when necessary.
  • Attending various school meetings.
  • Serves as a school health consultant. Consults with school administrators and provides in-services for designated school staff on a variety of health topics including handling of illness or injury. Provides consultation information of health policies, goals and objectives for the county office.
  • Administer medications and monitor delegated medication administration.
  • Attend and engage in regularly scheduled staff meetings and occasionally engage in parent participation events and other events that may be on nights and/or weekends. Attendance at Orientation and Open House preparations and event dates are mandatory.
  • Reports directly to the Head of School.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
